Aims & Structures
Retired Members of NASUWT have organised themselves on a local basis by forming themselves into RETIRED MEMBERS’ ASSOCIATIONS and nationally by all the R.M.A. uniting to form THE FEDERATION OF RETIRED MEMBERS’ ASSOCIATIONS.
The AIMS of R.M.A. are :
- To provide a service of advice and help to Retired Members.
- To organise social events for members.
- To maintain contact with and to assist the work of the NASUWT.
The AIMS of the FEDERATION OF R.M.A. are :
- To provide a means of forming a collective opinion on national matters of concern to Retired Members and conveying that opinion to the National Executive of NASUWT.
- To provide a body with which the National Executive can readily consult on Retired Members’ affairs.
- To keep R.M.A’s. and their members informed of developments relevant to pensioners.
Model Rules & Constitutions
Model Rules for R.M.A’s. and the Federation of R.M.A. have been drawn up by the NASUWT National Executive.
Retired Members’ Associations are affiliated to the Federation of R.M.A. and are entitled to send Representatives to each meeting of the Federation of R.M.A. Meetings of Representatives to the Federation occur in March and September each year . Retired Members are involved in the election processes to fill the Officer and Regional Representative posts that constitute the Executive Committee of the Federation R.M.A.
The Federation R.M.A. Officers meet representatives of NASUWT National Executive in the Liaison Committee three times a year : in January, in May , and in September.
There are five Federation R.M.A. Officers : President, Vice President, Treasurer, Development Officer and Secretary
There are six Regional Executive Members from : the South East, the South West , East Midlands , West Midlands , the North East , the North West.
Retired Members and the NASUWT parent body.
Retired Members, Retired Members’ Associations and the Federation of Retired Members’ Associations are fully incorporated into the parent body of NASUWT in its Rules and Constitution. Two Representatives elected by the Federation of R.M.A. now attend the National Conference each year with a right to speak and vote on matters pertaining to the interests of Retired Members. NASUWT is positively supportive of its Retired Members and the organisations that represent them providing meeting rooms, accommodation and subsistence for meetings at Hillscourt Conference Centre, Rednal.
Help and support is often frequently provided by the Staff at NASUWT Regional Centres throughout the U.K.
Matters of concern to Retired Members are brought to the attention of the NASUWT National Executive through the reports received from the LIAISON COMMITTEE where representatives of Retired Members and National Executive meet three times a year.
The various administrative departments of NASUWT are frequently called upon for their support in matters affecting Retired Members, in particular, Membership Dept., Finance Dept., Communications Dept. and Legal, Benevolence & Services Dept.
On a local / regional level close contact is encouraged between Retired Members’ Associations and the NASUWT LOCAL ASSOCIATIONS. Individual Retired Members often continue to serve on the committees of their Local Association and can be called upon to help with Student Recruitment, etc.
